Meet the Project Makers

Often, in professional gatherings of this sort, more attention is given to a few “star” projects, and ignore all the amazing work and innovations of lesser known players. We don’t want this to happen in the world of “straw bale buildings.” This space is open to all the participants in this event- big and small. The idea is that any person wishing to share a specific straw-based project (or projects) can do so. We will provide you with a template for creating a poster (or posters) showing photos of each project, accompanied by a description. These posters will be posted on the walls of the exposition space on Thursday, and on Saturday afternoon we will have a facilitated space in which you can circulate, meeting up with the project makers to ask them questions, and hopefully to plant seeds for future collaborations. It is possible to present the building in video format as well. Here are all the details on how to participate.

The idea:
The aim of this activity is to create a space for showcasing straw building projects from the last three years and provide an opportunity to talk directly with the designers.
We invite anyone who has carried out a straw construction project recently to fill in the A2 template we provide with information about the build. You can include technical data, a description, photos, drawings, details, etc. You can also send us a short video (max. 5 minutes) about the project (optional).

How the activity works:

From the first day of the event, all submitted projects will be on display so participants can see them and get an idea of which ones they’re most interested in.

The submitted videos will be edited into a single “film” that will play on loop on a screen inside the venue. This gives attendees a chance to view them during breaks before the live session.

The main part of the activity will take place on Saturday afternoon.
We will divide the projects into two or three rounds.

Before each round, we will give a quick presentation (1–2 minutes per project) of the projects and their designers.
Then, each designer will stand next to the location where their A2 sheet is displayed.
Attendees can then walk around, introduce themselves, ask questions, and network. It will be an informal and relaxed setting.

At the end of the first round, we’ll take a break to present the next set of projects and repeat the process.

NOTE ON TRANSLATION:

We likely won’t have enough interpreters to accompany every designer (if there are many), so we will ask for volunteer translators from among the bilingual attendees. This way, you can walk through the exhibition with someone who can help you understand the details.

To participate:
  • The project must have started or been completed within the last three years
  • Maximum of two projects per person
  • The project must be presented using the A2 template we’ve created for the event. Downloadable formats (below): AI, PDF, and Canva.
  • If you’re unable to complete the template, you can send us the content and photos, and we’ll help with layout.

👉 Submit your A2 sheet in PDF format by August 31 to the following emails:
📩 esbg2025@casasdepaja.org and nsantamaria014@ikasle.ehu.eus
This allows us time to print the sheets and allocate exhibition space.

If you submit early, we may also publish your project on the event website and even on social media prior to the event.

⚠️ If you do not submit it before the deadline, you may print it yourself and bring it to the event — but you must notify us in advance so we can reserve space.

* Details of the activity may vary depending on the number of projects submitted. If there are few projects, we may switch to short presentations of each project. If there are many, we may divide the session into three shorter rounds.
